Please contact us if you have questions on a specific application or project. If there is a coating application required for your project and you don’t see it listed below, please reach out to Sales@mcipcorp.com. Our team will review the coating specifications and determine if MCIP can apply the coating.
Fusion Bonded Epoxy (FBE) Line Pipe Coatings for Corrosion Protection
MCIP’s primary application is Fusion Bonded Epoxy coatings for line pipe. Fusion Bonded Epoxy, commonly referred to as FBE coating, is an epoxy powder based protective coating. It is widely utilized to protect steel pipe and a wide variety of piping connections, valves, and fittings from corrosion.
It is widely utilized to protect steel pipe and a wide variety of piping connections, valves, etc. from corrosion, in pipeline construction. FBE Coating was introduced in the 1960s and still remains today as one of the most widely used coating applications for corrosive protection.
MCIP has two primary FBE coating plants. The first plant – FBE 1 can coat pipe from 6” Outside Diameter (OD) to 42” OD and in lengths from 30’ to over 80’. The second plant – FBE 2 can handle from 1” outside diameter (OD) to 12” OD and lengths from 21’ to 53’.
ARO Coating
Abrasion Resistant Overcoat (“ARO”) is a hard, mechanically strong top coating for all fusion bonded epoxy pipeline corrosion protection coatings. ARO is applied to the normal FBE base coating to form a tough outer layer that is resistant to gouge, impact, abrasion, and penetration. ARO is used to provide excellent protection of pipelines for a variety of service applications, including directional drilling and anti-abrasion for road and river crossings, resistance to mechanical handling, and elevated temperature service in wet environments. This is applied during the normal FBE process.
Coating for Zap-Lok Pipe
Zap-Lok® is a patented pipe connection system developed by NOV Tuboscope that connects pipe without welding. This is achieved by giving one pipe end a bell shape, and the other a pin shape. During pipe-laying, special equipment is used to push the pin end into a bell end and press them together to a tight fit.
This can create challenges for OD coating, as the pipe is no longer straight from end to end and the machine that connects the pipes can sometimes damage the standard FBE coating.
MCIP has the capability to provide a FBE coating for the pipes with an ARO coating for the ends, which allows the pipe to be handled by the connection machines without damaging the underlying coating.
3 LPE / LPP
3LPE (Three-Layer Polyethylene) and 3LPP (Three-Layer Polypropylene) coatings are advanced pipe coating technologies used to protect steel pipes from corrosion, mechanical damage, and other environmental factors. These coatings are widely used in various industries, including oil and gas, water supply, and chemical processing.
The 3 layers of the coating system are:
Standard FBE Coating
Adhesive
Polyethylene or Polypropylene
Whether pipelines are laid in deserts, underwater landscapes, or cold regions, 3LPP / LPE coating remains unmatchable in its protective capacity. It effectively withstands extreme weather conditions, ensuring pipeline durability and efficiency. MCIP’s facility is one of the few in the United States that can perform 3LPE and 3LPP on the same run during the standard FBE process.
PowerCrete
PowerCrete is manufactured by SealforLife Industries and is a Ceramic Modified Epoxy for Directional Drill and High Abrasion Applications. It is a new generation solvent-free epoxy ARO polymer concrete coating that provides high-performance protection to the FBE coated pipe for directional drilling, thrust (slick) bore and pull-through applications. It is specifically designed to be applied directly on the FBE mainline coating of a pipeline to withstand rough terrain conditions. This product has exceptional abrasion, strength, hardness, impact resistance, and adhesion properties, making it the ideal choice for directional drilling projects. It has fast curing and no VOC content with excellent adhesion to FBE.
MCIP is an approved applicator of the PowerCrete product. For more information visit www.PowerCrete.com.
Liquid Coatings OD / ID / Other
In addition to the plant applied products mentioned. MCIP also has the capability to blast, prep and spray a wide variety of liquid coatings to:
Line Pipe
Stainless Pipe
Tankers
Skids
Trailers
Spools
Other Products as requested.
We apply single and multilayer coatings and use only top-quality abrasives for blast and preparation. Our facility has a blast booth that can accommodate full-size 18-wheeler trailers, in addition to three full size and three extended size paint booths that can accommodate coating for 18-wheelers and components. Please review the Projects / Gallery section (LINK) for photos of the various applications.
Coming Soon – FBE ID Coating
Construction is underway on our FBE Internal Diameter (ID) coating plant at our existing Pearland Facility. By Q3 of 2025, MCIP aims to offer FBE ID coating for line pipe, drill pipe, casing and tubing in sizes from 2 3/8’ to 8” with capacity to increase OD sizing to 12” or more in the near future.
Mobile / Offsite Coating Services
In addition to everything MCIP offers at our Pearland Facility, we also offer mobile or offsite coating services. We work with customers that need blasting / coating services and supply equipment, labor and materials to do the work on your site. With proper facilities and permitting, MCIP can coat what you need, when you need it and where you need it done! Please contact SALES@MCIPCORP.COM for details on the offsite services that we offer.
We strive for excellence in customer service.
